Quartz Materials for Aerospace and High-Performance Composite Applications
Cristex Advanced Materials (CAM) supplies qualified quartz materials for aerospace and other high-performance composite applications where dielectric transparency, thermal stability and lightweight reinforcement are essential.
Produced by Fabric Development Inc (FDI), part of the Kordsa group, these quartz materials have been supplied into approved military and commercial platforms since 1972, supporting demanding programmes where consistent RF performance and high-temperature capability are critical. The materials are widely used in radomes, antenna systems, aerospace insulation, defence structures, high-temperature industrial composites and advanced development projects.
Quartz materials are selected where electrical transparency and thermal resistance are essential, particularly for RF-transparent structures and radar-sensitive applications. They can be supplied as a fabric on their own or used as a reinforcement within an advanced resin matrix, depending on application requirements. FDI produces the quartz woven reinforcement, which can then be supplied to Axiom Materials for prepreg production.
Key benefits include:
- excellent dielectric performance
- low signal interference
- high thermal stability
- high strength-to-weight ratio
- lightweight woven quartz reinforcement for demanding composite applications
- compatibility with advanced resin systems
- reliable performance in harsh environments
This makes quartz materials particularly suited to radomes, antenna housings, aerospace insulation systems and defence structures where lightweight performance and signal transparency must work together.
The range includes standard industry weave styles alongside support for custom development for specialist applications. CAM can supply standard quartz material styles, custom woven constructions, bespoke widths and dimensions, as well as narrow quartz tapes and ribbons. Quartz tapes and ribbons are available in widths from 0.25” to 5”, supporting complex radome geometries, antenna integration and thermal protection designs.
As aerospace, defence and communications systems continue to evolve, demand continues to grow for qualified dielectric composite materials that deliver both structural performance and RF transparency. CAM supports these projects with established quartz material solutions, backed by FDI’s weaving expertise and Cristex’s technical material support.
