Microtex Launches B1-151 Bio-Based Epoxy Resin System for High-Performance Composite Applications

Bio-Based Resin Systems for Sustainable Composites

Cristex Advanced Materials (CAM) is pleased to highlight the launch of B1-151 from Microtex Composites, a new bio-based epoxy resin system developed for the manufacture of high-performance composite components requiring both excellent cosmetic finish and elevated thermal performance.

Designed for demanding advanced manufacturing environments, B1-151 delivers a glass transition temperature (Tg) of up to 150°C, making it suitable for applications where heat resistance, part aesthetics and consistent processing are critical. The system has been developed for use across a wide range of reinforcement options, including glass, carbon, aramid and hybrid fabrics, offering flexibility for manufacturers operating in sectors such as motorsport, automotive, advanced industrial and other high-performance markets.

A key feature of the new resin system is its sustainability profile. The bio-based content is derived from bio-based epichlorohydrin produced from renewable feedstocks, contributing up to 28% bio-based content in the epoxy monomers and 21% total bio-based content in the formulated system. This provides manufacturers with an opportunity to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the process reliability and performance standards expected in advanced composite production.

Additional processing benefits include a 30-day out life at 21°C and 12 months storage life at -18°C, supporting manufacturing efficiency, material handling flexibility and production planning.

Commenting on the launch, Simon, Business Development Executive| CAM said:
“B1-151 is a strong example of how resin technology is evolving to meet both sustainability objectives and the high-performance requirements of modern composite manufacturing. Materials like this give manufacturers practical options to reduce environmental impact without compromising thermal performance, cosmetic finish or process consistency.”

The launch reflects the continued shift towards next-generation resin systems that combine sustainability with advanced engineering performance, supporting manufacturers as they respond to increasing environmental targets and higher technical expectations.

B1-151 is available through CAM, with technical support available on material selection, reinforcement compatibility and application guidance.
